"Eik en Zwijn" is the fictional name for the lodgings of Mergriet van Wijenhorst. In her time houses were known in parts of Holland, including Antwerp, by such names as "Kalf met de Wieg" and "Den Draeck" and house plaques would reflect the names. The "Eik en Zwijn", aka: the "Oak and Boar", was chosen in an effort to mimic the practice and to give Griet a place to call home.

This is the home of Mergriet van Wijenhorst, otherwise known as Griet in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism).

In the SCA, one of the first things we do, on deciding to continue playing, is to develope a persona. For some it is as simple as picking a medieval sounding name while for others, it can involve a complete breakdown of time, place and tiny details from personal effects to books their persona would have read.

Through these pages you will find what I had settled upon after more than 10 years of playing under the same name (Mergriet).

The Renaissance World: essentially covers who Griet would have been in the 16th century, covering things from her life story and random things she would have been familiar with such as objects, clothing, sites and food.

The SCA World: is unique in that it mainly covers my experiences, random projects and accomplishments with the organization rather than what Griet would have done herself.

The Virtual World: shows various links to the websites and blogs I have created in the name of my crazy hobbies.
